Your account has been indefinitely blocked from editing because it has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia. Also, your username gives the impression that the account represents a business, organisation, group, or web site, which is against the username policy.

If you intend to make useful contributions instead of promoting your business or organization, you may request unblock and a username change. In your reasons, you must:

  • Disclose any compensation you may receive for your contributions in accordance with the paid-contribution disclosure requirement; and
  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked; and
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked; and
  • Provide a new username.

To do this, post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with your new username and replace the text "Your reason here" with your reasons to be unblocked.

Please note that the new username you choose cannot already be taken and in use by another account. You can go here to search and see if the username you'd like to choose is available. If the search returns that no global account with that username exists, that means it is available to be taken.

Appeals: If, after reviewing the guide to appealing blocks, you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal it by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your reason here" with the reasons you believe the block was an error, and publish the page. Alexf(talk) 20:38, 7 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

I didn't mean to come across as advertising or promoting a company, I run the charity CHAMP1 UK and I'm a board member of The CHAMP1 Research Foundation. The disease is so rare finding information and support when receiving the diagnosis is important. I figured people may turn to Wikipedia as it appears high on search results so I wanted to make sure that people could find the 2 largest support groups (There is an EU page but that is also part of the main CHAMP1 Research Foundation. Apologies for any confusion and I'll not make that type of edit again. Is there a better way to list the 2 links/groups so people can find them? 82.4.29.39 (talk) 22:14, 7 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Decline reason:

As a human being I applaud the work of your organization, but I must speak as a Wikipedia editor and what you describe as your purpose here is considered promotional. Wikipedia is not for merely telling about good works or to help people merely looking for resources to assist them with something like a medical issue. You also have a conflict of interest in editing about your organization and, if you are compensated for your role as a board member, would be considered a paid editor. Please review those two policies and describe what edits you will make if unblocked, especially if they are about a topic unrelated to your organization; if related to your organization, please describe what will change about your editing in that regard. 331dot (talk) 08:53, 8 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I can confirm the above was me CHAMP1UK (talk) 08:40, 8 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi,
Understood.
I am not compensated for my role so that part isn't an issue.
I'm also a parent to a child with CHAMP1 which is why I founded CHAMP1 UK and joined the CHAMP1 Research Foundation.
If unblocked I will stick to purely factual edits about CHAMP1 (The gene and condition) and any other articles I may edit/update.
For example there is currently a study underway to document all recorded symptoms of CHAMP1.
When that is released I would look to update the symptoms in the list and cite the study as the source.
We are also collating all published CHAMP1 papers so would look to update the number of cases mentioned in medical papers under Epidemiology.
I would also look to add any important relevant information from the papers and cite them as the source.
We are also in the process of establishing a CHAMP1 registry as to accurately document the number of diagnosed cases so I can update that once confirmed.
I will refrain from mentioning either of the organisations unless there is a specific need to do so, e.g. citing them as the source of a study or published paper or relevant piece of information. CHAMP1UK (talk) 09:10, 8 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hey,
I responded but this doesn't look to have been picked up. CHAMP1UK (talk) 08:52, 9 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I understand there may be some elements under conflict of interest but with this being so rare and there so few people to update CHAMP1 articles almost everyone else that would update it will have some form of COI.
Where I would mention either CHAMP1 UK or The CHAMP1 Research Foundation I will disclose the COI or post on the talk page as per the article.

An admin will review your unblock request when they become available. In the meantime, I advise you to look at Wikipedia:Identifying reliable sources (medicine) to see what types of sources for medical topics are considered acceptable (and unacceptable). --Drm310 🍁 (talk) 14:36, 9 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Drm310,
Thanks for the suggestion, I've had a read through and bookmarked it for any future edits. CHAMP1UK (talk) 14:39, 9 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
